I provide individual and family behavior therapy services. All individual therapy services are based on a Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) Model, while the family behavior therapy is based on the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Support. Descriptions of the therapy services are as follows:
Individual Short Term Therapy - Typically lasting 6-12 sessions, this type on therapy focuses on the development of specific coping, social, and navigational skills such as emotion recognition and expression, relaxation skills, assertiveness, problem solving, self acceptance, basic social skills, and perspective taking/Theory of Mind. Typically best for people 10 years and older with average cognitive and language abilities.
Individual Long Term Therapy - Typically for older teenagers and adults who are able to adequately express their daily concerns and are interested in changing their behavior patterns or outcomes. These sessions will focus educating the participants on how Autism is affecting their daily lives and pursuit of their goals, along with the development of strategies to help promote independence and a positive self attitude.
Family Behavior Therapy - This is typically best for parents of younger children and older individuals with limited language and congitive abilties. In these sessions, parents and caregivers are shown how to set up the person with Autism's environment to make it more comfortable for them and how to interact with that person to help increase cooperation and learning. Emphasis will be on increasing structure, establishing appropriate expectations, and teaching necessary life skills.
